I have a new Acer Aspire V3 -571 and I cant see when my caps are on or off. How do I solve this

You can use 3rd party software like http://caps-lock-indicator.com or http://keyboard-leds.com The last one is free.

Thank you I will try that. I now also have a problem that the search function doesnt work. It is a brand new laptop so it is most likely some settings that need to be activated but I dont have a clue how to do this. If you can suggest something I would be very grateful

Hold the "Num Lock" key down for 5 seconds.  A tone and message will confirm the action. You now ger a tone for caps lock on/off and num lock on/off. The high tone is "on".  You can also see this in Control Panel/Accessability Options/Make the kayboard easier to use.
