If you still have it on warranty you can call the the support number. I called it, it took forever and the guy actually put me on hold for like twenty minutes while he said he went to the bathroom. He was no help really, and told me to send it in, it was a hardware problem. Which it wasn't. I called the line a few times, finally I got somebody who actually knew about computers, b I'm telling you it took me hours to fix that thing.

Thanks so much! At first I tried it with the laptop on then off, both times it was closed. This time I did it while it was on and open. I'm not sure if this contributed to it, but now it worked.

Yay! Happy for you! I know how frustrating that is! Glad you figured it out! It may be software, too, if it does it again just see what was installed before it happened.

Hi I have had similar problems I have the aspire v5 running windows 8 from new I did a system restore back to new today after it took 3 4 hours to do that I started it up loaded the acer screen with a loading circle down the bottom and then went black have tried turning it off and on tried the function keys tried removing power holding power button for 60 seconds and starting up again without battery and with. And now I am stuck only just got my computer back today and didn't even get a chance to play yet.

Do you still see a Acer logo screen when powering on before it goes black?

Yeah acer logo for 2-15 seconds than black

Your hardware seems OK. So can you describe the procedure that you used to 'restore back to new'''? For example, did you use the procedure in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqgYe7OcLhA

No I went into settings it had reset windows button gave me two options to "refresh computer" or "clear computer" and I cleared

Immediately after powering on, hold the shift key and repeatedly tap F8 to try to force Windows into a safe mode screen. If successful, you may be able to repair from there.

Just going to take it to the tech when I get some money together cheers for the advice though
