Hello I am new here and have a slight problem i hope someone can help me. I have an acer aspire one D255E notebook that came with windows 7 starter, Well at that time i did not care for windows 7, so a friend wiped the hard drive and installed XP. My question is, is there a way to restore it back ti windows 7 starter? Any help is truly welcome, Thaks all, Don

Yes. You can telephone Acer support and pay for a set of discs.
I imagine your friend did not suggest taking a backup of the hidden partition named pqservice before wiping the drive ?
It is a tough lesson to learn but always do your backups and burn your recovery discs first when you buy a new computer..... don't ignore the warning messages you get.....

Just to add to what Inspiration said, you can also go get them directly from our website if you're in the US.
http://store.acer.com and click on eRecovery tab at the top of the page.

I would imagine you will get discs. As you have a netbook with no DVD drive you would need to borrow or buy one. A USB DVD drive that is.
Just check with the Acer call centre what format they will be supplying the software.
Good luck ! ![]()

I believe it will come on DVDs. You'd want to get an external DVD drive. They generally range from 25-35$ for a baseline unit, just make sure you're getting one that has it's own power source as we see people run into problems when they use a USB powered DVD drive.

Would it be possible to use dvd drive on a desktop???

To do that you would need a SATA to USB convertor & to remove the DVD from the desktop computer. More hassle than it is worth I bet. So most likely not.
It does strike as an interesting idea though, you could take the HDD from your AOD255E and plug into your desktop (unplug the current HDD's in the desktop computer so only the laptop one is inside) and then use the discs. When all discs are done and the computer restarts - Turn it off and put HDD back in your laptop.
Bit of a funny way of doing things, I have done this before, but I am a tekky with many years of messing around with computers.
Good luck ! ![]()
