I have an Acer Aspire timeline 4830tg notebook with a built in battery. I have been using it for 3 years plus and yesterday the battery wouldnt charge anymore even when it is plugged in. I never had this problem before. When i unplug the charger, the notebook shuts down immediately because there is only 3 percent of battery left. Can someone please tell me what is the possible cause for this problem? Is it a battery problem or something else? Thank you.

It is likely to be that the battery has reached the end of its life. You could try a different charger (same input/output as yours) to see if it makes any difference. If it does, then replace your charger. If it still makes no difference, then it will be the battery.

You will have to take it to your local PC store for further assistance.
