Hello,
In Windows 8.1:
I have an Acer Aspire E1-771 and sometimes the webcam is not working.
Sometimes, I mean, if I put the battery out, push power for 10sec and replace battery, the computer find it again as HD Webcam.
Sometimes it is listed as SPCA device.
I can capture the camera sometimes with VLC or Skype. But after loading some time, it crashes.
Under Linux it works a bit better.
And I can capture the device for a long time with (c)vlc, but after loading Skype or Google Hangouts, it crashes.
Kind regards,
Matthias

OK. That works...
But removing the battery, hold power on for 10 seconds and restart the computer works also.
The webcam works again, detected in Skype and VLC. But works only for a few seconds and the virtual usb disconnects.
With VLC it works sometimes for more then a minute. After a while it disconnects.
I can send in the notebook for repair, but we (the computer store and me) don't know if it is a hardware problem. Because it just works. We are afraid that it will cost some money....
The problem is also that I've loaded Linux and I think Linux has maked my webcam bad...
So I think it's a user problem.
If I send in the notebook and it is "sort of repaired by replacing the webcam" the problem can come back again.
So it is better to not repair the webcam.
I don't use the webcam. Only for a few times a year. I have some different devices to run the webcam.
What can I do best with this? Are there other solutions?
External webcam is an option, but then I have to bring the webcam all the places I come.
