Hello, I have forgotten the windows 8 password for this laptop and tried various password reset tools all of which have either not found the hard drive or blue screened while loading, I have tried altering the bios settings (ide mode) etc with the same result, the laptop boots to the login screen ok so I am assuming the hard drive is ok, I also tried e recovery using alt + f10 at boot having had to first alter the bios to legacy rather than UEFI to get this to work, again even e recovery cant find the hard drive in either ide or ahci mode, bios version is 2.04, any help with this would be appreciated, thanks.

Just to update this post, finally reset the password using the renaming of Utilman.exe method.

start computer up and when at the log on screen if you hold down the shift key when you pres restart it should reboot into the advanced recovery option.

note that if you are using a microsoft account to login (normally an e-mail address) then this wont work, this only works with local accounts.
