Hello,

A couple of weeks ago in the middle of playing FIFA 13, my Aspire 5552's screen suddenly went black. After this, the laptop refuses to boot. The power light turns blue, fan spins, HDD spins, nothing more. The screen is black. I have also noticed, that the HDD activity light flashes faintly for a split second after turning the laptop on. I have on rare occasion managed to get the Acer logo to show up by bruteforcing the power button, the logo stayed for a second and the screen went black again. I have tried bios recovery (BIOS.fd on usb, pressing fn+esc) - the fan spins at a high rate, but no reboot or shutdown after hours of being in that state. I have also tried shorting the HW gap, replacing the CMOS battery, pulling out ram. I tried applying pressure to the gpu, still nothing.

I'm all out of ideas, does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to give up on this lappy, it's only 2 years young.

There may either be a break in the videocam ribbon cable near the hinge area/power button (a common occurrence from  opening and closing the lid too much), or the ribbon connectors to the screen and MB may have to be re-seated. In either case, the screen bezel and keyboard must be removed.
