My Aspire x1200 stopped turning on except for the cpu fan which is now very loud.  No beep, light, etc.  Any suggestions?

If may be the following causing that problem:

1. Power supply failure. If you can borrow one (albeit a full size one, just to test) connect it up to see if it boots. If it does, the original one will need replacing. Because the X1200 is a small form factor unit, it will need a special PSU, which are difficult to source. Try asking at your local PC store to see if they can help

2. Motherboard failure. I think this is likely to be the problem. Again, ask at your local PC store to see if they can obtain a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I can purchase a new psu for about $55 but I didn't want to buy one if that wasn't the issue.  I haven't checked on the motherboard yet.

Well, if you can borrow one, even if it is just for an hour or so, try it. Ideally, you don't want to spend $55 if you don't have to!
