Hi,
I am trying to restore an Acer Aspire V5-571P-6499 using recovery media purchased from the US.
Every time I try to boot from the "System Disc" it tells me it needs to be booted in the opposite mode i.e. if the bios is set to legacy bios, it tells me the disc needs to be booted via uefi mode.
When I chang it to uefi mode in bios and reboot, I get told that the disc needs to be booted via legacy bios mode.
As a result I cannot boot from the "Systyem Disc".

Try switching the D2D mode in the bios.

Hi JackE,
Thanks for having a look.
'D2D mode' was enabled so I disabled it and rebooted. Unfortunatly I'm still having the same problem.

Are you trying to recover Win8, Win8.1 or Linux?

Windows 8.

Sorry I should have mentioned the original hard drive is not in the laptop anymore so the original recovery partition is not on the hard drive.

OK. You're not the only one with the problem. Check this one out, esp near the end, for things to try. http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-Tablets/Acer-
The easiest is to make sure the recovery disc is first in order to boot in the bios.

PS: Please let us know how you're progressing on this. Thanks.

Hi JackE,
I nuked the hard drive using "DBAN" then tried again and the system booted from the system disc.
I had installed a version of Windows 8.1 whilst waiting for the discs. That may have been the problem.

The install has completed successfully so everthing is working fine.
