Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can’t find any posts with a solution to this.
I have been given an Acer 5733 by a friend to try and repair for her.
The issue appears to be that the LED backlight of the LCD screen has failed, when using an external monitor you can use the laptop without a problem, when you look carefully you can see that images are still displayed on the screen, but no backlight, so the issue seems to be isolated to the screens backlight only.
I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version and have even gone as far as to replace the entire screen unit, including backlight with a new one but the issue still remains?
As the laptop is a month of so out of warranty Acer would properly require money that my friend does not have to assist
I local shop has suggested to her that the graphics card has failed and she needs a new laptop, but I can’t see that is the case as the external monitor works fine (I could be wrong of course).
Has anyone managed to fix this issue before, or could point me in the right direction?
Many Thanks,
Tim

Hi Finlux,
I did think that to start with but it's an LED backlight so no inverter ![]()
I did manage to get through to Acer they seem to suggest a graphics card or motherboard issue as well, but I have to agree with you, it would not work on an external screen surely.
One thought is that the replacment screen is faulty, but the chance a new screen having the exact same issue as the origanal seems remote.

Hi
Did you make any progress with this? My screen is reversed - Black is white and colours look like looking through an old fashioned film negative. Output to external monitor is normal. 5733 with Win7 installed. Problem starts from boot into bios. The screen resolution seems a bit grainy. My daughter found a work around by altering the software video settings, but the screen resolution is still off.
Cheers
