I have a five year old Aspire 5532 laptop. Two days ago it caught the dreaded black screen disease. When I start it, it seems like everything comes except the screen does absolutely nothing . I can hear the fan running, but after a split second it cuts back to a lower level.
One complicating factor is that my battery has been shot for years. For a low end computer, it is not worth replacing the battery at a cost that is more than the computer is worth. I just plug the computer in everytime I use it.
I am not that astute with computer issues, but from reading about similar issues on line suspect it is a BIOS issue, but it could be a shot screen or possibly a battery problem. Any advice? How should I proceed?

Hello,
Have you tried to connect it to an external monitor or LCD TV in using VGA or HDMI port?
Note: [Fn]+[F5] --> Switches display output between the display screen, external monitor (if connected) and both.
