Hi there! Glad I found a community. Hopefully someone can help me with my problem.
I recently installed XP on my Aspire 5250-0678 which used to have Win7 (I just prefer winXP..), went trough all the driver installations but I can't manage to find the ethernet/LAN driver.
It's always a yellow interogation mark, and all the drivers I've tried don't work. It says the card isn't there.
20509048116 is the SNID.
On acer.com website, I can find my laptop, but there's only drivers for windows 7 and 8. ![]()
Can someone enlight me with which driver I should use? Thank you.

Hello Orchsein,
I download on Acer website the following driver for windows 7-32 bits (it's the same for 64 bits):
| Lan | Atheros | LAN pilote | 2.1.0.7 | 6.0 MB | 2012/10/18 |
I open the readme folder and I read 0409_English.htm:
Readme.htm created 30-APR-2009
Readme File for AR813x/AR815x setup package
Supporting: Atheros AR813x/AR815x Gigabit/Fast Ethernet Controller
Operation Systems:
Windows XP, Windows Server 2003
Windows XP x64, Windows Server 2003 x64
Windows Vista, Windows Vista x64
Windows 7, Windows 7 x64
On Qualcomm website, the last driver is WIN_AR813X_AR815X_Windows WHQL Driver V2.1.0.21 (file.rar open with Winrar)

Internet does work now, though I need a cable. Do I need another driver for the wireless network to work?

Hello,
Yes, you need a driver for wireless lan.
- Click on Start
- Clik on Execute
- Type the command mmc devmgmt.msc
- Check the device(s) which have a "!" (it means you need driver for this device). Note the name.
The problem, it exists 3 wireless lan brands:
| Wireless LAN | Atheros | Wireless LAN pilote | ||||
| Wireless LAN | Broadcom | Wireless LAN pilote | ||||
| Wireless LAN | Realtek | Wireless LAN pilote |
What is the good?

Thank you again for your support.
The two icons which have an ! mark are as follow:
Network controller
Bus controller SM
Those two have a yellow ? as well on them. There's no brand written in there or anything.
With what you made me download in your first reply, I can now connect to the internet using an ethernet cable.
What's written on my laptop is as follow:
ASPIRE 5250-0678
And on the network drawing, it's written: ACER Nplify(tm)802.11b/g/n.
I believe it was a Win7 64 bit which was installed but I can't confirm 100%. Now though, it's XP.

Hello Orcshein,
Bus controller SM: you need chipset driver. Normally, it's included in AMD Catalyst (AMD SMBus driver).
Otherwise, you can use AMD Driver Autodetect.
Network controller: left click - properties - do you see the brand?
Otherwise, you can find the brand in the erecovery dvd (folder) or remove the backside and you research a small board like this:
Personally, I don't use software which detect all devices and provide any drivers. I prefere to see them with my eyes ...
I had a bad experience with this. Bad driver = Card dead
