Using T232HL with laptop: Touch always assigned to laptop monitor

Hello all,

I've attached the Acer T232HL to a Vaio laptop, running Windows 7 64 bit. The latest driver is installed. The touch works fine when the laptop monitor is mirrored or when the laptop monitor is turned off.

But when I extend the screen, so that laptop and T232HL show different areas, the touch action is always assigned to the laptop screen.

In the Windows control panel I have made the T232HL the main monitor and I tried different positions, e.g. placing the T232HL on the left side of the laptop in the display settings. Nothing helped. The mouse, pen and touch settings of Windows weren't any help either.

How can I assign the touch action to the Acer monitor?

Thanks for your help,

Tyron

I would suggest running a calibration test and tell the OS the active screens. The calibration test is found under Tablet PC Settings in the Control Panel. From the Tablet PC Settings window, click Setup and go through the test.

Please let me know if this helps.

I had a similar problem with my Windows 7 and touchscreen. Have you tried it on a different computer or OS?

Clyde, thanks for your answer. But the idea is to find a solution to the problem described, not to re-organize my life :smileywink:

Re: Using T232HL with laptop: Touch always assigned to laptop monitor

Acer-Ryan, thanks for the tip. I didn't try this before ... but it didn't work either :smileysad:

In the calibration, the touch input is assigned to the laptop screen, too. There is no way to change that. When I select the Acer monitor the calibration tool says there were no touch input available for this screen.

It seems the touch panel is treated as an independent device, like a mouse or a touch pad. There seems to be no way to tell Windows to assign the touch panel to the Acer monitor.

I have a Wacom tablet that can be assigned to the monitors in different ways. But that's a feature of the Wacom software. I wonder whether there is a tool doing the same for touch monitors (I would have expected something like this to come with the monitor).

[ Editado ]

tyron,
I apologize you have been unsuccessful in setting up your multiple touch display setup. I have done some research on the issue and have found several topics on the issue. I found one "hotfix" from Microsoft that if you have not tried, I would recommend downloading and installing; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2618640. After try to run the calibration tool as I suggested in my previous post.

I have also read, from a third party source on the web, in Windows 7 touch input is limited to the primary monitor. According to Microsoft, Windows 7 native touch does not support multiple touch-screens simultaneously. To be able to use multiple displays with touch input you can use other touch APIs, such as MultiTouch CornerStone C++ (or Flash/AS3), or touch information streaming protocols, like TUIO or XML.

If the "hotfix" does not resolve the issue and you have the Windows 7 driver from our support site, then it could be as stated above or be a limitation of the driver as this monitor is Windows 8 touch compatible.

Re: Using T232HL with laptop: Touch always assigned to laptop monitor

Acer-Ryan,

Many thanks for your research and the time it took you. I really appreciate that!

I hadn't tried the Microsoft hotfix before because, before you mentioned it, I had no idea the calibration could be of any help in this case. And the best thing is ...

IT WORKED !!! :smileyvery-happy:

I downloaded the hotfix and installed it. That didn't change anything at first. But after rebooting my computer (the software doesn't mention this) the calibration also offered me the calibration option for the Acer monitor. And as a result of the calibration the touch functionality is now assigned to the Acer monitor as desired. Perfect!

Regarding multiple touch screens under Windows, thanks for your tips. This related topic was not part of my problem described here, but a few days ago Siemens indeed asked us whether we could do some interactive presentations in Flash for an exhibition stand using 4 touch monitors (2 x 2). Before writing in this forum I had spoken to your collegues at the Acer support chat. They said for both problems no solutions were available. So I was about to talk Siemens out of it and suggest a single-screen solution. Now I'm glad I gave this forum a shot and I'm thankful for your great help. I will do some research on the options you mentioned.

Greetings from Munich, Germany,

I am having the same issues. I have a Dell Latitude E6420 non touch (i5 core 8mb ram running win8). When i go into extended screen mode I get no touch reponse from my acer T232hl. Clone and One screen work fine. just extended screen which is the whole reason I purchased this monitor.
