Hello all,

I just spent 50£ on recovery discs after my laptop crashed.

One is "bootable", 4 are "base" and one is "language pack"

I use the "bootable" by going to F12 and selecting CD ROM

It says windows loading files, get Windows logo, then it goes blank and stays there.

Black screen but i can move the curser around but it wont go any further.

Can someone help please am I doing it wrong?

Acer tech support not very supportive they want 40£ but I dont want to spend that if my hard disk is kaput or I have to take it in for repair anyway.

Any suggestions much appreciated

Cheers

Theo

If the disks are not working, there is most likely a hardware problem, possibly with the hard drive. What was the system doing prior to ordering recovery disks and trying to restore the system? If Windows was not booting properly, it is possible the hard drive has failed.

Theocar, i suggest you to try to delete any partition on you HDD, leaving as raw data and the try to use recovery media.

    Hi IronFly,

Sounds good to me but I have no idea what you are on about.

How do I go about doing it?

If you could give me a step by step guide that would be much appreciated

    Cheers

    Hi Acer-Blayn,

I tried the Acer system restore which faid and I shut the laptop down.

After that Windows wouldn't boot I just got an error message asking me to intall Windows discs.

When I used the boot disc it just gets to Windows screen then goes black with arrow in the middle of the screen which i can move around with mouse. I've left it that way for hours but it just stays stuck there.

I've paid for tech support (£40) and theyve told me that they will download a programme remotely to another computer to wipe the hard drive clean. Problem is I can't use work computer for this.

Anything else I can do other than get a new hard drive?

    Any suggestions are appreciated

    Cheers

You can boot from a live gparted image, on USB or CD:

    http://gparted.org/livecd.php

then it's very simple, you have to delete all the partition, so the HDD were a single RAW drive.

here you will find a live manual, that can help you:

    http://gparted.org/display-doc.php?name=gparted-live-manual

just remember to Disable UEFI and secure boot from BIOS, pressing F2 at boot.
