    • "I have an aspire 5742z, which suddenly began shutting off shortly after starting up.

    My laptop Acer Aspire 5742z started shutting off after being turned on.  (It will does not complete the boot up process.  Any suggestions.

      How far into the boot does it get and does it just shut off or reboot? Does it do it in Safe mode?

      Try setting the Bios settings to default.

      It gets to various points in the boot but not all the way.  Smoetimes it gets as far as repair option and then shuts off.

      Try opening the BIOS and look how much time the laptop will work in the BIOS. If it restarts even in the bios, the problem is from the hardware, on the other hand if it does not restart in BIOS, try reinstalling the OS you have.

      Could be the cpu overheating. Is there fan noise, air circulating?
