Hello.

I bought an Acer Aspire V5-552PG a year ago when it was released. I am pleased of it, most part.

Recently I have upgraded my internet connection speed from 100 MB/s to 1000 MB/s but the is no change at all.

I have windows 8.1 and every time when I test my speed it won't pass 100 MB/s . What should I do, could I get some help ?

Here are some pics :

PS. It is a really powerfull notebook, what should I do to make my FPS higher in games ? (in league of legends I have constantly 40 fps)

Check your Ethernet cable and be sure to have at least a CAT5/E, be sure that your modem/router has a gigabit port (1000)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5_cable#Category_5_vs._5e

if  all the above is ok:

    Windows logo key + x
    click on Device manager

    open the network adapter tree

double click on your ethernet adapter

    click on advanced

    scroll until Speed&duplex

    force 1000 Mbps or 1.0Gbps

    click ok

    reboot and try again

Did as you said and this happened

    I have fiber glass cable.

And my router is definitly a gigabit router.  My laptop is the only one that is limited to 100MB/s download. Other laptops with 1gb/s lan have a download speed of over 700 mb/s

try to update Atheros lan drivers and retry (without forcing 1.0Gbps speed):

Nothing happened. I had to reboot my PC but it is still the same. The internet speed test wont pass over 100 mb/s

Don't know what to do anymore, a friend told me that would be my antivirus or my firewall. Most laptops wich has windows 8.1 has this problem, dunno what to do next, I am opened to any suggestions.

So far I really appreciate your help. Thank you Mister.

I have fiber cable into the modem (ZTE ZXHN F660) and from the modem into the laptop I have CAT5 cable.

I tested many laptops with this connections and every single one of them wich had gigabite lan had a speed over 800 mb/s except this one, my personal acer aspire v5-552pg.

    Same CAT5 cable?

by the way, disable : Energy Efficient Ethernet

it's in the same windows where you have found the speed settings.

    Windows logo key + x
    click on Device manager

    open the network adapter tree

double click on your ethernet adapter

    choose "Details" tab
    from dropdown menu, select HardwareIDs
click on the first value and copy/paste it here

can you report also your BIOS version?

Well I called at the service where they have changed my primary HDD (the stock one 1Tb 5400 rpm into 160Gb SSD HDD) and they told me that they couldn*t make the SSD HDD run on bios 2.07 so they switched into 2.02. I have exchanged my old HDD and it's working now.

Here is the final test speed

    http://prntscr.com/5h2d45

As you can see it raised with 50 Mb/s ...

But still I know that this PC can do better. I'm dissappointed.

Thank you a lot for your help, I think I'll just have to admit that this laptop was not build to reach download speed of over 700 Mb/s .
