New E5-571 froze during windows update

Hi, my 5 day old E5-571 froze during windows update last night, left on update screen overnight, had not changed by the morning, had to shut down using the manual button, turned on a few hours later, still stuck on the same update screen with no progress shown on the update.

Phoned the customer helpline, was advised it was due to a build up of static electricity, told to unplug the power cable, press and hold the on button to use up any excess electricity, then plug in and turn on with a touch of the button as normal.

Computer worked after this.

Just wondering if this rings any alarm bells for other Acer users? Has anyone else had the same problem, and is it known as a recurring problem? Is this a known fix in the acer community (the unplug and press the start button to get rid of static fix)?

Would be glad to hear replies!

Nice to hear that you fixed the issue. This problem often happens in notebooks. It is also possible that you may come across a problem where the system doesnt boot at all. All this is normal. You just have to remove the static electri energy which your laptop motherboard may be holding, thus interrupting the normal functioning. This is also called resetting.

    1. Remove the battery

    2. Remove the power adapter

    3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds

    4. Reinsert the battery

    5. Plug in the power adapter

    6. switch on the machine normally

This is all normal and nothing to worry.
