My acer aspire loptop AS5742 keeps sudenly turning off

I appologize because im new here i might be on the wrong thread or anything.

So my acer loptop AS5742 i been using it for 5 years now and i dont think its old that it needs to recycled. So the problem, it happened a couple of days ago i installed some adobe application then i restarted the computer after that then the loptop keeps shutting off without any warning but it eventually turns on after 3 or 4 seconds. But i was able to restore it to an earlier point where it was working. The problem occurs whenever im working (browsing,games,videos etc... on plug and on battery. My battery is also broken, it drains really quick. And i have overheating issues too but i think thats not the problem because ive check the temperature uaing core just before it went off and its not over heating.
Running Windows 8
Intel core i3
4gb of ram
500 hdd
Intel graphics card

And also sometimes a couple of restarts because it automaticly turns its self on after the sudden shut off ot shows lines like static on the windows 8 logo and accross the screen. Hopefully theres some solutions thx ^^

Do you mean to say it's suffering from "spontaneous reboots" as we say in the guild? You say that you restored to an earlier point and the problem went away? Then came back? I didn'tI quite understand. If the probem occurs on battery only, obviously rule out the AC charger. In such circumstances where heat is not known to be the issue, I would find programs to test the RAM and the hard drive sectors. This as a starting point. You want to be able to rule out... then you eventually rule in.

I wonder if it might be a problem with the AC adapter going bad. Do you have another adapter that you can test with this system to see if it resolves it?

Thx for the replies. Running on battery only and running on charger only, still dosent fix the problem. Ive used a different chrger and tried a diggerent socket but the problem still occurs.

It was actually a ram going bad thats why it was showing lines in the screen before it shuts off. Thx got the problem solved.

Btw Tell me more about that rule in and rule out xD

In one way, I look at it as akin to gardening, everyone has their own successful way of doing things. I've been into computer repair and configuration for many years. I have found (like many folks) that for me the best way to find a hardware flaw is by the process of elimination.

If you have some reliable spare parts handy (not everyone does), you swap out until you find one that makes it work, then you know what was faulty.

As well, you can use various softwares to check the hardware as well, as you evidently did with the Memory.

So you rule out until, as Arthur Conan Doyle said: "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
