Hi, my Aspire 5736Z can't seem to locate the built-in webcam. I am running Windows 7 (64-bit).

I have looked in the device manager, and there doesn't appear to be a driver of any kind. I attempted to download each of the three Acer webcam drivers, and each of them returned a similar error message saying something along the lines of "no webcam detected".

I then went to Programs > Acer > Acer eRecovery Management, and attempted to restore the webcam driver, but there was none in the list. The computer has been rebuilt, but I find it highly unlikely that a technician would disconnect a built-in webcam.

Is there anything else I can do short of purchasing a USB webcam?

Cheers,

If you have a habit of frequently opening & closing the lid, you likely need a new video flex cable 5736z ribbon from ebay. The ribbon conductor trace lines often break usually in the hinge area --- sometimes losing the webcam or even the LCD screen. Cost less than $10 with free shipping for a replacement ribbon.
