I'm trying to upgrade the RAM in my Aspire One D255E-13647 netbook from 1GB to 2GB. It seems that many people have done this and had success.

I have tried twice, both time with memory the vendoe specifically says is compatible with the D255E-13647 model. In each case, when I install the memory and turn the netbook on, the power light lights, the fan runs for a few seconds, but that's it. The disk activity light never comes on and the system never boots. Replacing the original 1GB memory module restores normal operation.

The memory used in my last attempt is "2GB 204p PC3-8500 CL7 8c 256x8 DDR3-1066 1Rx8 1.5V SODIMM(see 2GB Memory Module)

At this point, having tried twice, bad memory modules can probably be ruled out. Are there Aspire One netbooks that CANNOT accept 2Gb of memory? It seems like the machine is not recognizing the 2GB memory module and therefore is refusing to boot or even look at the hard drive. I see lots of reports of succesful upgrades from 1GB to 2GB, though none specifically dealing with the 13647 model.

    Hi,

Could you please post the details of the original RAM( you can use CPU-z to get the details), this module has worked for others, it could be a faulty module.

    The current (working) memory is

    Memory Type:DDR3 (SODIMM) 1 x 1GB
Speed Rating :PC3-10600 (1333MHz) Data Rate
Memory Pins:204-Pin Dual in-line memory module
    Voltage:1.5v
    CAS Latency Timings:9

    Manufacturer Part Number: GU672203EP0200

    The new (2GB) memory is:

    Description:

    Unifosa GU672203EP0200 DDR3 RAM 1333MHz 1GB 1333Hz DDR3 PC3-10600 SoDimm

I could belive that one memory module was defective, but I've tried two and neither worded, which makes me think it's not the memory that's bad.

    They are both DDR3, both PC3-10600 1333MHz.

I looked at the memory chips on the second (2GB) board and they are  Skhynix H5TC4G63AFR-PBA which has a speed rating of 1600 11-11-11. don't know why the memory is rated as 1333MHz when the chips are rated at 1600MHz, but would faster memory be an issue? The original memory has a latency of 9, while the 2Gb is rated at 11. The 2GB chips are trated for 1.35v, while the 1GB board is rated for 1.5v. My understanding is that this is not an issue.

Prolly faulty or mismarked modules. Go to crucial dot com and download their upgrade scanner. Run it on your system. Go with recommended voltage DDR specs. Higher-rated speeds OK. Jack E/NJ
