How do I get an aspire 5517 to boot up?

in 2015 Archives

I have an Acer Aspire 5517 laptop which is only 3 1/2 years old. It won't boot up - it starts to, the fan goes on, then 2 seconds later it stops. The power light is on and the CD drive will open. Nothing on the screen. Already replaced the battery. I know this was an inexpensive computer, but I'd expect more than 3 years use before it dies.

    Tarzan41 with more info on the Aspire 5517 that won't boot - It had Windows 7 in it when I got it - I MAY have upgraded to Windows 10 - can't remember because I have 4 computers I'm fooling around with. I made 3 recovery discs when I got the computer, and I have put recovery disc #1 into the drive. It spins and acts like it's reading the disc, but then just stops after around 30 seconds. Then, nothing, except the power light stays on
