I would suggest you to rebuild the BCD (Boot Configuration Data) from Command prompt and check if that helps.

    1. Insert the Windows 8.x installation/recovery media and boot the computer using the disc. ****

if you don't have a installation/recovery media, i suggest to download windows 8.1 enterprise trial edition:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-8-1-enterprise
you need to burn the downloaded iso file to an USB or DVD bootable media

Note: You need to check the computer manual on how to set CD/DVD or USB drive as the first boot device in the BIOS.

    2. Once you boot using the Windows installation disc, on the Windows 8.x installation window, click on Repair your computer.

    3. Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options. First thing you may try is the Automatic Repair. If that does not help, go for System restore. If that works fine, then create a system restore point so that next time you encounter any problems you may always restore the computer to the recent system restore point created.

    4. If that does not help, then select Command Prompt. Enter the following four commands into the prompt.

    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

Once the command completes, restart the computer.

**** Since you have another laptop with windows 8.1, you can create a recovery media from it but without the recovery partition, so uncheck the recovery drive option if possible

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive

    1. After the recovery drive tool opens, make sure the Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive check box is selected, and then tap or click Next.

      Note
      • The checkbox is greyed out when your PC doesn’t have a recovery partition. The recovery drive will include only the recovery tools and a bootable image, but not a recovery image to use for refreshing or resetting your PC.

Bootsector viruses and other malware that targets the bootloader or the booting chain can cause errors in the bootloader settings and state that result in an infinite loop of Startup Repair. The virus may then block Startup Repair from either launching or carrying out its repairs successfully.

A failed Windows Update or Automatic Update can also sometimes leave the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) in an inconsistent or non-working state.

You may the below mentioned steps
    Restart the computer.
When the Acer logo appears on the screen (As soon as computer powers on), press and hold the the left Alt key  and tap the F10 key.
Choose Keyboard type > click Troubleshoot > click Advanced options > choose Automatic Repair
    if that fails then use:
Chose Keyboard type > click Troubleshoot > click Advanced options > choose Command Prompt

If that fails then you mat try using the recovery media that you have create for from your computer and reload windows. During the system recovery process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. Therefore, we recommend you backup your personal data before starting the recovery process.

If you have not created the recovery media you may purchase it from Acer store.

You cannot use a recovery disc created by another brand,
The recovery media is generated per specific request based on model type
It will install the Operating System, all the pre-installed Software and the drivers of your system.

If you have a unit from US or Canada, you may purchase the recovery disc from Acer store : Acer Store

You may also live chat with an Acer technician at : Acer live chat.
