Is there really no way to use an external microphone without purchasing one of those USB-pens to transfer it through that?

The in-built microphone is dreadful, and I recently bought a microphone. I thought every laptop nowadays had an input for microphones. The AA e1-522 doesn't, or am I missing something? Why remove it in the first place...?

Thanks for any helpful replies.

If you are not satisfied with the built-in microphone you have the option of buying a USB microphone.

I want to run a home recording-studio through this laptop and have downloaded a mixer application

My older lappie (which I'm using now but really want to give to my son to use) has a mic-input that I use to plug my instruments directly into the laptop. With the newer machine (which I am getting less and less happy with- its screen died in the first month) do I have to get adaptors to allow for this, or do I have to get an external mixer?
