Aspire E1-510 USB problem after waking up (Win7)

Hi! I recently bought E1-510. It's actually my third Aspire notebook and I never had troubles like this one before. I flashed the BIOS to 2.11 in order to install Windows 7 and everything went quite smooth until the first try to sleep it. Apparently after waking up all USB devices stop working and I have to reboot it (needless to say, restarting denies the whole idea of sleeping). I tried virtually anything: changing power management settings, tweaking the registry, reinstalling default windows drivers, installing various more or less random drivers from the Internet, you name it, nothing helped.

I read it could be a BIOS issue - is downgrading safe? Should I try?

Or maybe someone encountered this problem already and knows how to fix it? Anything that helps, I'll be very grateful.

Where did you read this? What was the original bios version? Trying to revert back is probably neither possible nor advisable at this point. If you haven't doneso already, check Device Mgr for USB or related device errors or warnings right after they stop working. It might be better to search for other Win7 compatible device drivers than to mess any more with the bios.

Here's an example of similar issue occuring on Lenovo notebooks, supposed to be fixed in BIOS update:

The original version was 2.05 if I recall correctly.

Anyway, my problem seems to be exactly the same as the one described in this thread:

So there are no errors in device manager, but USB devices literally disappear. I will try and disable xHCI, it doesn't seem like a very good solution indeed, but better than nothing (providing it will work).

Still I think Acer should investigate this issue further.

If I recall correctly, the whole "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section was gone then.

Disabling xHCI actually helps so it's my solution for the time being.

If they disappear from Device Mgr and then re-appear/re-install after re-booting, then this suggests to me that their drivers on your machine are not fully compatible with Win7.

Hi jahmaican, Control Panel--> Power Options --> Change Plan Settings --> Change advanced power settings

Select the power plan you want to customize, and choose settings.

Hi! I have the same problem. I tried changing the "USB selective suspend setting" under Change advanced power settings, to "Disable", but it did not work: no USB after coming back from hibernation. Is that what you were suggesting? Thank you!

Hello there!

As stated before, the only solution that was confirmed as working (by at least one other person than me) is to disable xHCI support in BIOS (F2 after reboot and it's there somewhere).

Bear in mind this will make all your USB 3.0 ports act like USB 2.0, but there's no point in having USB 3.0 that works half of the time at most, right?
