This laptop runs great most of the time, but suddenly it will slow down to a crawl, like something is paralyzing its memory. It will sit there in that state for 20 - 30 minutes, then just as suddenly - return to normal. I have run utilities, malware removal, virus scans, optimized startup, uninstalled everything I don't need, etc. Does anyone have a possible solution?

Try restoring the computer to a earlier date, before this started.

    Type Restore in Windows search.

If that doesn't do it, if you haven't already, test your HDD with one of these free utilities.

    1) Crystaldiskinfo - http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-...
    2) HD Tune - http://www.hdtune.com/

I forgot to mention that I already changed the HD and the issue was still there. If I restore to an earlier point to about 8 months ago, would there be any issues, and if so, could I put it back to the most recent to be at least where I started?

If you're asking, can you restore it to 8 mo ago and then put it back to recent again, no. You can connect a usb drive and save all your personal data before you restore it.

It's been awhile now, but it seems the issue is resolved. It must have been a virus that my anti-virus couldn't resolve until it did a software update and possibly a definition update at the same time. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your response and suggestions.
