Hi,

I have an Aspire 5551-A which was going fine until today when the screen went black.

I've hooked it up to my main pc screen and everything is fine, I can see everything happening and it is usable, but when using the laptop screen it's as dead as a dodo.

Running Windows 7 Home.

Is there an easy fix or is this going to be an expensive job (money's tight at the moment)?

Thanks

Steve

The video ribbon cable EITHER needs to be re-seated a half dozen or so times at both ends OR has developed a conductor trace break usually in the hinge area from opening/closing the lid too often. If the latter, Amazon has the ribbon cable replacements for less than $20 with free shipping. Search Amazon using the keywords "video" "cable" "Aspire" "5551".

In any case, you must remove the screen bezel and keyboard to access the ribbon cable. Google the keywords "aspire" "5551" "disassembly" "youtube" and pick a video that seems best to you.
