Hello all, I am new to the forums and I need your help, please. Smiley Happy

I have looked everywhere on the internet for an answer or a clue but I cannot find anything that works.

I own an Acer Aspire 4820TG that has both an Intel HD Graphics and an ATI Radeon HD 5470 GPU.

I was having issues with my HDD so I decided to upgrade to a newer one, thus having to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I downloaded all the necessary drivers from the Acer support site and all went well. The only thing not working properly is the switching of the graphics cards. I have installed the drivers for both the Intel and ATI GPU and in the Device Manager panel both are recognised and both are working properly, no error codes or messages in their Properties windows. I have downloaded and installed the AMD Catalyst Control Center and when I open it it recognises the ATI card, no problem, but regardless of all this I still cannot use it because I cannot switch to it and the laptop keeps using the Intel HD Graphics.

I tried to find a way to switch GPUs from the Control Panel, the desktop personalization, the Catalyst Control Center... nothing. The Radeon card is there and it is recognised, but alas, the laptop seems adamant that I cannot possibly switch to it.

Is there any piece of software or UI that I may be missing? A switching interface of some kind?

Before installing the new HDD I remember there was a link when I right-clicked on the desktop, that said "Switchable Card Settings" or something similar, now it's gone... there was nothing of the sort in the long list of drivers I downloaded from the Acer support page.

I would be really grateful for any and all suggestions or information you might give me! Smiley Happy

    LaMarghe,

In the AMD Catalyst Control Center program itself it should have a power settings section that will require you to set up what progrmas use which graphics process (on-board or discreet). Please make sure that your Windows power settings (advanced settings as well) are all set to push to the discreet graphics chip as well.

I have this same problem after my HDD failed and I had to replace it, including a fresh install of Windows 7. The original software allowed for manual switching from ATI to Intel at any time by right-clicking on the desktop. The AMD Catalyst Control Center doesn't provide manual switching, only application settings for "High Performance" or "Power Saving" which is a pain to set up. I really want the ability to switch manually, as that was much more convenient and reliable.

If anyone can point towards a way to restore this functionality it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
