For the past month or so, after any Windows 7 updates, the next time I power on my Aspire 1810T I get a black scrren.

I reboot 5-10 times playing around with various combination of  FN + F8, CTrl plus Esc, etc  seem to brng it back.

Is there a better solution ?

Have you tried to HDMI or VGA out to a TV or external monitor to check the video adapter when this happens?

Why does a simple Windows update cause the issue ?

I suspect another cause may be more likely. If this black screen episode happens again, please check to see if you can successfully HDMI or VGA out to an external screen. You may have to use the Fn+F6 or Fn+F5 key combos to toggle the screen on and off.
