My laptop is Acer Aspire E5-572G. Im having problems connecting a Samsung 840 EVO SSD through a 2nd disk caddy.

I mean, it cannot be recognised at all even in BIOS. Im thinking to install new BIOS system , but when searching for it , I dont find anything and I dont want to flash wrong BIOS update.

It is exactly this model , I have entered the serial number I got from Ace's system information software.

Can anyone help me?
Any suggestion to recognise the 2nd disk caddy along with the SSD?

Sorry but where is the free slot for a second HDD/SSD?

    I bought this Smiley Happy

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/261557525313?_trksid=p2059210.m2748.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

    It replaces dvd slot.
    It should work.
Either its the SSD itself (I doubt it) or Caddy (maybe) or motherboard of Acer Laptop supports only original dvd rom (GUAN0) and has whitelist on it, so other devices cannot be used( most likely).

I selected IDE from BIOS but windows wont even boot up  and BIOS still dont recognise it.

    Any suggestions?

i would use AHCI instead of IDE.

if BIOS can't recognise something is wrong in the optional bay.

you can try to take off the original HDD and put the SSD then check if BIOS will recognise.

Yep , Im using AHCI anyway.

I will swap them and inform you.

If it does not work it though, it might be a BIOS problem/bug.

I read somewhere that previous acers (year 2012) had an upgrade in BIOS and then  they supported 2nd drive caddys. Others had the same problem too and they could not get rid of it.

Regarding my 2nd question: Maybe I should not flash any BIOS I find on the internet right?
I mean if Acer is not giving BIOS updates , Maybe I run the latest one? Because for similar models (for example E5-511) BIOS updates have been released.

    similar=not the same model

please don't do it, BIOS must match the exact model.

Im happy to say that I figured it out!

It may sound silly , but I solve it by going to disk manager (win8.1) and alocating a letter to the disk drive.

    Still BIOS say

    ATAPI CD-ROM:

When HDD: WD12313456 (dont remember exactly)

I want to say , that even BIOS do not SEEM torecognise the disk , Windows do it no problems.

Benchmark of Samsung 840 EVO from DVD caddy: http://i.imgur.com/FAp3UMc.png

It may be slow , but I swap it with HDD when I have time , and maybe I will have better speeds ( My laptop supports SATA3).Still an upgrade over the HDD.

    Thank you all!

Hope to help some others googling similar issues.
