Good afternoon Acer Community,

I'm having a prolonged issue with the internet stability of my Aspire Notebook that I purchased in 2012. I have had zero problems with this notebook up to this point. Whenever I start my notebook, the internet connection no longer instantly acquires, but rather will disconnect completely with the little yellow dot on the signal display. I have to go in manually and click connect several times before it connects. I've had my cable company come over to ensure my internet is stable, which it is (20dl, 2up). When I'm connected, my internet browsing speed is fine, but then will bog down pretty badly at least 5-10 times per hour. The biggest problem is during any sort of online gaming, where my latency will shoot up to 500+ ping for a few seconds, and then eventually go back down to around 100 (which is still high).

I did at one point go through my msconfig to get rid of programs I didn't need. I fear I may have gotten rid of a program that was running that is integral to my computer's internet stability. I went back into msconfig and enabled all of the programs I was able to, but no improvement. I don't know if it is no longer in the list since I disabled it, but either way it's not working correctly at all.

I was thinking of reformatting but I don't have any CDs or anything similar to use to reformat with.

Any suggestions?

Do you have anything else running on your router that is not having this problem? Try shutting down your computer, unplug the modem and router, wait a minute and replug the modem/router and then turn on computer. If you still have problems, uninstall and reinstall the driver.

Do you still have a working recovery in your laptop?

Everything else running on our router has no issues.

I have done many router and modem resets with zero results. I have even hardlined my computer to my modem with no results.

I don't know what driver I would need to uninstall and then where to find it to reinstall it. Where would I find that driver?

I do not have a working recovery on my laptop, nor do I know what that is. >.> I'm assuming some sort of back up, but no I don't. I have all of my important files backed up on flash drives.

Sounds simple enough; which driver though?

    Hey, thanks for the response.

It looks like it fixed the stability issues with internet slowing down and having massive latency, however it will still disconnect every 30 minutes or so. I'm able to reconnect by going into my network settings and spamming connect over a minute, and then I'll reconnect. So I'm not sure what the deal is.

Are you running Windows 7 64, 8 64 or did you upgrade to 8.1?

Open a command prompt as administrator and run "sfc /scannow" just to see if all the Windows files are there and good.

Download the wifi driver from Acer.Go to Programs and Features, then Device manager and uninstall, delete anything wifi.

reboot and install wifi driver. If this doesn't fix it, you could be developing some hardware problem with your wifi card.

Great, I will try this sometime within the next few days. I will for sure let you know what happens. Thank you for your support!

I ran the "sfc /scannow" command with zero issues found.

When you say the "wifi driver from Acer," which do you mean? These are the ones I can find for my computer on Acer's driver page.

Windows search for "System Information" and then go to Components/Network/Adapter and scroll down until you find the wifi adapter name.

Well, I found one that has the name Atheros in it (Name [00000007] Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)), but if I keep scrolling down I see:

    • Name [00000007] Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)
    • Name [00000011] Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205
    • Name [00000013] Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
    • Name [00000015] Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Am I to just leave the others there and go with the Atheros driver?

Did you buy this new? According to your components list, your wifi card is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205 and Acer doesn't show a driver for this card. Go here and click Automatically detect and update driver and see if it's detected. http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/wireless/can-6205

Yes, I bought it brand new. I'll check out that driver updater when I get home, but usually it does absolutely nothing.

Every instance of a 7750G-9810 I found has the Intel Wifi card, yet Acer doesn't show a driver and having problems with it.

Are you upgraded to this bios?

    BIOSAcerBIOS1.215.4 MB2012/11/13Download

    Driver http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16414/

    If you are then

    1. First download and save to your desktop the latest drivers from your laptop manufacturer.
    2. Remove the Intel® PROSet software from Control Panel\ Control Panel home\ programs, ‘uninstall a Program’.
    3. Go to ‘Start’ right-click on ‘Computer’ click on device manager (on the left panel) click on “Network Adapters”\Double-Click the adapter name\Drivers Tab and click on the “Uninstall” button if present.
    4. Remove the Wireless folder found at C:\Users\YOUR_PROFILE_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Intel. (if you do not see the “AppData” folder you need to “unhide “ it, pres ‘alt’ click on tools then ‘folder options’ in folder options click on ‘view’ then select “Show hidden files, folders and drives” then click ok )
    5. Install the latest drivers.

Followed those instructions. Got an error after installing the driver you linked to. Said it wasn't authorized or something like that, and windows won't allow non-authorized drivers to run. The word wasn't 'authorized' but something similar. I'm on my second uninstall/installation at the moment to see if i can fix it. I tried installing another Artheros driver I had, but that one wouldn't work either. Computer cannot connect at all anymore.

Yeah, when I get to around 60-70% i get an error about my driver installation saying that it failed. Any suggestions? I'll have to put whatever files I need on a jump drive at work.

Any ideas on what drivers I should download and install? Currently internet-less.

Try going to Device Manager and roll back the driver and then reboot. If you remove the back cover, the wifi card is there and you can verify it's a Intel card, which is why an Atheros driver is not going to work.

    Here's your old driver:

Uninstall any wifi related before you install.Programs and features and Device Manager.
