Acer Aspire 7250-3821 No video on boot

I have a a 2 1/2yr old laptop that just stopped working.  Very minimal usage.  It has the "no video" issue.  I have replaced the motherboard to no avail.  CMOS battery exchanged as well.  The memory also exchanged.  I have hooked up an external monitor as well as tried an HDMI source.  Still nothing.  The power light comes on, the hard drive is 'working' and I can feel the fan working.  Pressing the "FN+F5" doesn't seem to have any effect either.

What else could be wrong??

Could a faulty power button be causing this????

    drfischer2k,

It could be that a cable is not connected properly for the display, or something else is not secured as it should be.

Well, no go on the power board.  It "boots" just like the original problem.  I have the motherboard out of case (in case there is some short that way) and only have the fan, powerboard, hard drive, DIMM, and dc power jack connected.  Even with the video connected and unconnected (using external video source) it is still doing it.  Only thing left is to replace the DC power jack and the fan/heatsink.  Beyond that....I am VERY frustrated with this thing.

    drfischer2k,

CPU can be related to this issue as well. It might not be a display issue, per say, it could be a booting issue and it's just not doing anything; everything is doing what it's supposed to except the CPU.

The CPU would not be the issue with this as the new motherboard came with a CPU already.  As far as a display issue, switching motherboards would not have this problem, correct? The external video source would work when pressing the FN+F5 option at boot up.  The booting issue also would be rectified by the fact that I tried a different hard drive in the laptop

    drfischer2k,

When you have an external display connected you should see a splash screen pop on it when you boot the system up. If you are not getting a splash screen at all on boot then it's not getting a signal from the motherboard itself.

It looks like this doesn't have a HDMI port on it, I presume you are using a DVI to HDMI cable? Have you tried to use the VGA connection or a different cable?

Have you tried a different monitor or the monitor that is connected on a different system to make sure it isn't the problem?

It "could" be that the motherboard you got is DOA honestly, let's not ever rule that out, it does happen.

I understand about the splash screen and what should happen. Actually, it does have an HDMI port. I have done both, HDMI and VGA. The external monitor is working perfectly...as with the cable. I use it to test all my computers when I fix them. It functioned not more than 5 mins prior to working on this laptop.

    drfischer2k,

It could be one of those pieces of hardware you have not replaced yet or the motherboard you received could be DOA.
