My Acer Aspire 5741G becomes too hot using GNU/Linux Debian.

Any ideas on how to get the same cooling effect just like with Windows 7/8/10?

Using Microsoft's Windows it never becomes too hot and I guess this has something to do with the control of the fans of the laptop.

Had no luck with the bios but it looks like I solved the problem for now.

For those with a similar problem, here is my solution:

    1. I installed the actual official proprietary driver from AMD for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

    2. I completely disassembled and then cleaned the laptop and assembled it again.

Now I work with it since more than 6 hours and I reach not more than 50 degrees celsius in every core.

I guess/hope that should do the trick until the end of lifetime of the laptop.

How do you know it becomes too hot? How are you monitoring the temperature? What are the symptoms? What happens when it becomes too hot?

I can feel it when I sit in front of it and when I use the keyboard.

I monitor the temperatur with lm-sensors, aktuelly for example

    core 0: 97 degrees celsius

    core 1: 95 degrees celsius

I have 1 browser window open on a fresh GNU/Linux Debian installation.

When I work with the laptop it sometimes just goes off after it reached 105 degrees celsius.

First, check to see if a power-setting option of "performance" or similar setting is available in the bios.
