Hi, hoping for some insight into solving a problem...our ET1831-05 when powered up only the fan comes on like a high setting and nothing else? was working fine up until last night and now this..

Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Thanks!

    Hi greenesfamily

Try unplugging everything that is connected to your machine including the power lead. Now press & hold the power button for 30-40 seconds, then reconnect the leads to see if it starts up.

If this fails, then you may have an issue with the power unit that is inside your PC. If you can borrow (or cheaply buy) one, it is quite easy to swap out to test.

Unfortunately, if this too fails, then you may have a failed motherboard!

Let us know how you get on!

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. So we tried unplugging everything as mentioned and still no luck, only the fan starts when powered up.

So for step two...testing the power unit, would you know the part number that we should look for to test this?

    Thanks!

I would also disconnect the CMOS battery, disconnecting only the power cable doesn't reset machine's BIOS.

so try it again as written by Finlux but take off the silver button battery CR2032 (it's under the VGA slot), press the power button twice and wait about 2-3 minutes, then put the battery back, connect only the power cable (HDD, ram sticks, DVD must be disconnected) and check if your are able to boot to BIOS or if BIOS gives you any error about missing ram

    I'm not an Acer employee.

    Good advice from Ironfly.

As for a replacement power supply, any one should suffice. Go to Amazon (or such) and look for a PSU of at LEAST 250w.
