Is there any way to get the original specs of the hardware that was installed in a Gateway system?

Gateway NE56R31u and Gateway NE56R10u.  Both system were given to me since he replace them with newer ones.

Bear with me this may be a bit winded.

Feel free to ask for clarification and or if you need more information.

NE56R31u

This system had Windows 10 installed which since died (OK I killed it) so the Hard Drive is clean blank nothing on it.  Had original Windows 8 which I am going to install Windows 8.1 (ISO Downloaded from Microsoft site).  I have gone to the Gateway web site to get the Drivers.

Here are the issues no particular order.

1. Not sure which touch pad.

2. The person that original had the system like to swap parts around so I am not sure the WIFI card is the right one.

  • Right now it is a Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11g/g/n
  • Now if I look under Windows 8.1 64-bit no Realtek WIFI, same for Windows 8 64-bit
  • Do find them under Windows 8 64-bit (Upgrade from Windows 7)

3. Chipset Driver

Windows 8.1 no

Windows 8 yes (Guessing this is the oen to use).

4. Where is the LAN driver?

  • Netlink BCM57785 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (Broadcom Corporation)

NE56R10u

Windows 7

No issues finding all drives for this one just have one question.

Since he swapped parts around if they WIFI card for the NE56R31u is in the NE56R10u and vice verse.  Are they interchangeable?

If I was to swap them would they work properly?

  • Qualcom Atheros AR9485 802.11 b/g/n

Yes I know that I could save my self the hassle and purchase the System Restore disk what if that installs the incorrect driver then I am still where I am now.

Thank you sorry for the lenght,
