    chaskins,

Could you please provide the part number of the notebook you are referring to. Also, what led to have to run the recovery in the first place, if this is an older model unit it might not be the discs and it could be the hard drive, as discussed in this article.

Hi Justin, It's a newer gateway only about 2 or 3 yrs old, S/N: [edited to comply with guidelines]. I'm repairing this for my not so technicaly inclined friend. One day a few weeks ago he went to turn it on and it came up with "automaticaly repairing windows, this may take a few hours" he left it like that for about 3 days. When he finally restarted it, it came back up with the same message. I started looking into it and finally pulled the drive and hooked it up externally, started check disc and it failed about halfway through. After that I was unable to access the drive and decied to format it and it checked out after that. After formatting the automatic recovery still came up but would fail to complete. I ordered the restore disc as he hadn't made any. When I attempted the restore with the discs I got the error in my first post after running the second disc. After reading through a few posts it was sugested to create an iso file of the disc to check if any of the discs were bad. The system disc checked out but failed on the first restore disc.

    chaskins,

Thanks, from what you are describing it sounds like it could be the hard drive is defective honestly. Try replacing the drive with a new one or one you know is good without any formatting or partitions and run the recovery media you received from us. If the discs still fail it can be only a couple things, the media or a different piece of hardware on the unit.

    chaskins,

Thanks for the update. I have did some research for you and it appears that you have ordered two sets or recovery media now, correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what I see. I have created a case to research this a bit for you, which I'll send to you in a PM, but did you have the same problem with both sets of discs?

Could you provide me the part numbers on the discs you received so I can make sure the correct ones were sent?
