CPU is still running at 100% in e-Machine

Member Posts: 5 New User

I've been trying to get an e-Machine running for a friend for weeks.

Recently he bought re-install disks for his computer which are for Windows Vista Home Basic.

The CPU in Perfmon is showing it's running at 100%

Is the CPU maybe dying?

What might be wrong?

Any ideas?

    Hello,

    1. Have you re-installed the chipset driver from eMachines download center?
    2. What model does he own exactly?
    3. Where did he buy the factory recovery media?

No. I didn't realize that I needed to. BUT besides that, I'm having trouble with upgrading the browser to IE 9. I'm thinking about seeing if I can install Firefox.

What model does he own exactly? EL 1300G-01W If I remember correctly it was made in 2009. I can supply the serial number and SNID.

Where did he buy the factory recovery media? Capital Data USA. I can tell you the name of the guy I talked to and the phone number if need be.

    Hello,

You'll need Windows Vista SP2 to install FF. I advise you to test it with FF46.0 instead of FF47.0 ("more greedy"):

Well that's what I think part of the issue is, I believe Vista SP2 IS installed and after that it seems to mess up the Windows Update service.

I was also thinking about trying to re-install Vista Home Basic again.

You can also download and install manually the SP2:

Well I think the CPU is failing or something related to it, such as the cache.

I told the guy about it and said I could replace the CPU if he wanted to buy one but I think he's just going to get another computer.
