Acer E-15 E5-551G T1LD
Hi there,
I'm new to this forum as this is my first post.
I am the owner of an Acer Laptop, model described above. In the past I have been updating my current Windows 8.1 tot Windows 10.
However, this did not worked as my laptop kept freezing all along.
Therefore I decided to do a downgrade to Windows 8.1 again, by downloading a copy from the official Window site.
This all worked, but it came as a copy without any drivers whatsoever.
Now I've been able to download most of them and now my laptop is almost functioning normally again.
The only thing still not working right now is the fact that I cannot dim my screen properly.
I've been looking everywhere on the web for the right displaydrivers but still no luck...
So the question that still remains: can someone provide me with the right driverset to make the screen dim function work again?
Thanks in advance!

probably you have to install Acer Launch manager:
if your dim issues is the manual control using Fn+F* keys

Hi IronFly,
Thank you for the quick reply.
I've tried to install the Launch Manager and noticed it was already installed.
So I deinstalled to reinstall it again, but it has no effect...
Any other solutions you can offer me?

The Vga drivers you installed, are from Acer support website?
Try also to install power management:

The VGA drivers are indeed from the Acer website. I already called a company specialized with this kind of problems, and they downloaden loads of drivers but none of them worked.
So i'm still stuck with this problem.
I also should've mentioned that I do no longer have a Sleep-function in the interface, in the place where you normally can find the Restart/Shut down options. I now only have 2 options that I can use...

Have a look here for Sleep function missing:

That worked, although the actual Sleep Function is still missing. The list now counts 3 options; hiberntion, shut down and reboot. But sleep is not there.
So I am still stuck with this issue as it just does not seems to work. If I press the designated button for it, Fn + left arrow for darker screen and Fn + right arrow it has no effect.
Could it help to deinstall the video driver and than just reinstall it?
Hope to hear soon from you and thanks for taking the time so far looking into this issue.

Device manager
click on View tab
click on Show hidden devices
do you have any yellow exclamation mark visibile?

Hi there,
Yes indeed, if I go there there is an exclamation mark next to the driver called AMD Radeon R7 M265.
Think that might be the problem.
Can I just delete it or reinstall it somehow?

Can you try to re-install this driver?

Hey there,
I deleted the other driver, and re-installed the one you provided. The exclamation mark now has been gone, but at the "Other devices" tab where it says "PCI device" it still shows an exclamationmark...
If I click on details it says there isn't really much information available about this driver.
After reinstalling I've rebooted the computer but the key combination of Fn + Right or Left arrow still does nothing.
So somthing's still stuck I guess.

Alright, installed all the nessasary drivers that you instructed me to.
Everything seems to be normal except for the two missing options:
- No standby button, or sleep or whatever you'd like to call it
- Screen still can't be dimmed by using the key combinations...
Am I just one special case and am I doomed to be using my laptop this way, or is there possibly another solution?
Thanks for all of your patience so far, anyway, it is much appreciated!

Check on device manager if your monitor is recognised as PnP monitor.I'm not an Acer employee.0

Checked for what you've said, it is indeed been recognized as a Generic pnp Monitor.

Try this:
Right click the PnP monitor, choose to unistall and tick to unistall software too if asked.
Then click on Scan for hardware changes (top bar of device manager)
Once re-installed monitor drivers, reboot and try if brightness works.
If not...i don't have other ideas.I'm not an Acer employee.0 -
Alright, tried that too, and even when I deinstall the driver and reinstall it again, an exclamation mark keeps showing up next to the driver. I have no idea what to do next, but I do know I am not going to take another Windows laptop anymore.
Thank you so much at least for being so thorougly in the search for a solution. Really appreciate it!
I am just going to leave my laptop for what it is right now.
Thanks!
