Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire AM5201-E5710A that has Windows Vista Home Premium.  I would like to install Windows 8.1 full version with DVD that I just purchased and it would not let me.  This is a message I received in windows setup.

Windows 8.1 installation can only be started from Windows 7. Windows 8.1 is not designed for installation on devices running Windows XP or Windows Vista - see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=313602 for important information.

Could you please provide assistance of how to install the newer Windows Operating Systems?

Thanks,

Etienne

you need to backup all your personal data before installing windows 8.1 over Vista, since an HDD wipe is needed.

put your windows 8.1 DVD on your laptop, boot pressing F12 and choose DVD/CD rom as bootable device.

select your language and keyboard then press next

    click on Install now

    enter your product key

    choose Custom install

on windows setup select each partition and choose delete, once deleted all partitions, click on next and let windows 8.1 install.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
