Brand new E5-573 won't switch on

Hi, I unboxed my laptop today and as instructed plugged it in before switching it on. When I pressed the power switch the blue light flashed and the screen flickered momentarily, this kept on happening every few seconds until I held down the power switch to power down.
I tried a few times and the same thing happened, so I contacted email support who said to reset the battery with a paper clip, leave it for 5 minutes and try again.

I followed their instructions but the same thing happened and by that time it seems support had gone home.

Any ideas? At this point I'm prepared to box the whole thing up and send it back!
