Aspire E1-771G possible Upgrade Options (CPU/RAM/HDD)

Hello dear guru.

My model is: E1-771G-33114G75Mnii

I already update:

1. memory - i install 8GB in second slot. total now be 12GB (4gb native + 8gb)

2. hdd - i replace default hhd to SSD Crucial MX300 750GB.

After this updaates laptop work fine.

Now i wish upgrade CPU.

i look what chipset laptop have:

CPU native - Core i3-3110M

Chipset name - Mobile Intel® HM77 Express Chipset

Soket - 988B rPGA

Model - EA70_HC

i go to intel and see specification - http://ark.intel.com/products/64339

On it i see i can use many CPU for upgrade. i wish some i7 model with 4 cores like i7-3612QM / i7-3610QM /i7-3720QM / or some other.

Please can you help me to i be sure about i am right on my thinking.

I wish to be sure until buy CPU necause i need waiting lot of time until i get it and also cpu cost money so i not wish frozen my money Smiley Happy

Hello All.

As i promise - i back after upgrade CPU. i change it to i7-3720QM.

Laptop work nice and powerfull after this update.

So for all who wish update CPU - i can say greenlight. Smiley Happy

Hi,

You have done a good job upgrading your laptop, further upgrade of CPU will give you a little or no benefit at all, I would suggest you to save money for a new system in future but it's entirely up to you to decide, I should make clear that I don't work for Acer and my suggestions are mine.

You can upgrade to a i5-3230m and it will definitely work, i7-3612qm may work or not, I can not confirm.

I can only suggest you to go for a i5-3230m for it's price and compatibility.

I have couple stupid questions:

1.I use laptop for work. as default i run 2-3 virtual-box + 5-15other application(mailclien/dropbox/evernote/notepad++/photoshop/coreldraw/2-3 diferent web-browsers/etc...). i interesting to have speed-up with this part. from this point - i5-3230m - still be optimal for me?(it is not problem to use 200$ for i7 CPU but i wish be sure about it is right choise)

2.I look you compare and little confused - i7 looks as more powerful but on compare just win 0.1-0.3 score. It is really not have so much different for cpu-used application?

No problem, the reason I have suggeted a i5-3230m is it's sure to work and I am not sure whether i7-3612QM will be compatible with your motherboard, when I did the search, I came to know that there's not much between these two CPUs.

Interesting - be any way to check CPU and motherboard compability? i look cpu i7-3720QM. as i see chipset and soket total compability. any other factor why they possile not work on my laptop? Sorry if i ask so stupid but i not have guru knowledge in hardware)

This revision have CPU i7-3632QM.

I also visit official website but not find separation between revision - only one model E1-771G.

So if i am not so stupid i can upgrade to i7-3632QM. - please warn me if i not right on this!!!)

Possible to have problem because of i7-3720QM Turbo Frequency be more hight?

I think i solve question, so what i do:

1. i concentrate with motherboard, in my laptop - Acer EA70_HC Type2 - Board Version

2. i concentrate to find info about support cpu tupes, and find this:

Core i7-3720QM - what i like also BE SUPPORTED Smiley Happy

For be sure i read a lot of positive feedbaks about update CPU to i7 on Acer laptops !

So i decide update to i7-3720QM.

If community interesting - i can report here after i get CPU and make upgrade.

Funny you say that..

depending on what he wants, if he is doing lots of virtualization stuff, then he definitely should go for that quad-core processor.

quad-core is better for multi-tasking and running VMs for sure.

I had i5-3210m on my laptop, and swapped it to i7-3630qm..

the difference is like a day and night, and i do a lot of VM stuff..

here's cpu-benchmark's comparison for those 3 processors..

I paid about $70 for my i7-3630QM, so you can get 'em for quite a reasonable price, just avoid all the

insane prices you see on amazon/ebay,or then it probably would be a good idea to seek for a new computer.

but if you get the upgrade cpu for cheap, then go for it.

just make sure the TDP value aint too big of what the original cpu of your has, cause nobody likes a fried laptop right.. Smiley Happy

(you could also change in the power plans the max processor usage to be 99% on a certain profile, so the turbo boost will never turn on, thus not increasing the heat of the cpu that much..)

remember the more powerful processor you have, the better your cooling solution should be aswell. Smiley Happy
