Adding second hard drive in ODD caddy to Aspire E5-551?

I recently upgraded the HDD in my Aspire E5-551 to SSD to speed up the system.  So far, it works like a charm.  Bootup is crisp and quick and the system is running smoother than ever.  I would like to use the original HDD as a storage drive and I would like to mount it in the (currently empty) ODD bay using a standard caddy unit.  I purchased two different HDD caddies and both show the same problem.  The unit installs just fine and indicates that it is powered, but the second drive does not show up in This PC or in Disk Management.  I have no doubt that I likely missed a step or two in the install, so I'm curious if anyone has been able to do this with their systems and if anyone was able to find the workaround so the drive can be accessed.  Any info would be helpful.  Thanks.

For the record, my unit is now Windows 10 with the most recent BIOS update (ver 1.12).
