Acer ES1-512-P84G running while lid is closed

I have a new Acer ES1-512-P84G which seems to continue running when I close the lid.

I have the power settings changed to sleep with the lid closed, and the computer starts on the lock screen when I open the lid as if it had been sleeping. The problem is when the lid is closed, I can hear the laptop running (sounds like the hard drive is spinning or maybe the fan) and the battery drains as if I had been using it. This happens even if I manually put the laptop into sleep mode before closing it.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Thank you.

    JCooki,

In your power options there is an advanced power settings option, please look through there and check the sleep mode settings to make sure it is set to go to sleep for both being plugged in and on battery.

Yes, it is set up to sleep both plugged in and on battery when the lid is closed.

I have also found out that the problem does not happen when I leave the lid open. When I manually put the computer to sleep and leave the lid open, I find that the battery lasts overnight and as far as I have seen, doesn't appear to be running like it is doing with the lid closed.

    JCooki,

Thanks for the update. The other spot to check, which I'm sure you have but want to make sure, in the power options section is on the left side where it says "Choose what closing the lid does". Make sure "When I close the lid" is set to sleep for both.

I would like to add, if there are a lot of applications open and running that the notebook does have to save all that information for sleep mode to kick in. The more that is open the longer it can take, for testing purposes I would suggest you have no applications running in the background other than just what is running when Windows starts.

If it is still having this issue when you make sure everything is set right, you might try a refresh to make sure there isn't a corrupted Windows file somewhere. If it still persists you can try a system restore to the first day you turned it on, if possible, to make sure it wasn't a Windows update or an installed application that caused this to start happening. Lastly, if all else fails, you can perform a restore to factory defaults and start from scratch to make sure it's supposed to work correctly.

This sounds exactly like the issue I'm having.

My ES1-512 won't go into hibernate, and "comes out of sleep" and consumes the battery when CLOSED (LED flickers blue/red).

    Works fine when open...

What starts running when you close the lid...

    Did you find a solution?
