Acer ES 15 - Application key crashes laptop

As there is no left and right mouse key as such you use the 'application key' however everytime I use it, it simply crashes the laptop.  I get the whirling blue circle and then a 'not responding' message.  It is running on windows 10.

Any ideas on how I can fix this, bearing in mind that I am not a computer geek!  Thanks

    jbarber,

Would you elaborate a little more on what problem you are having, I am unsure of that the application key is.

The application key is the dedicated key/button to the right of the space bar on the laptop which acts as a right click.

    jbarber,

Ah, now I understand what you are talking about, thanks for the clarification. Smiley Happy

I can really only think that performing a refresh would solve it, has it always did this or not until after you upgraded to Windows 10 possibly?

The laptop is brand new with windows 10 preloaded. It's happened right from the start of me first logging on!

    jbarber,

Understandably frustrating if it is from the get go, I know. Smiley Sad

Without the exact model number or first ten characters of the serial number it is hard for me to discern which operating system is installed. Since Windows 10 is still "fairly" new, I went with my gut and chose Windows 8. Not to mention it is a little harder to see systems that are not sold in the United States. Smiley Tongue

That being said, a refresh will reinstall important Windows files, but will not erase any personal information or data. This is the first troubleshooting step to determine if it is software or a hardware (keyboard or motherboard possibly) problem. Smiley Frustrated

OK I'll try a refresh and see if that resolves it.
