I have an acer E5-511P that is a few years old which can't find the wireless network in the new shared flat I've moved in to.

My mobile phone can find the network and connect to it without problem, and the laptops of the other three roommates (all different brands and models) can find the network too. However, my laptop can find other wireless networks, just not this particular one.

I'm running Windows 10, and I've upaded the driver of the wireless card (Qualcomm Atheros AR956x) to v 10.0.0.329. I had to get the driver from another source, as the product support page for the Aspire E15-511 doesn't list it. The wireless LAN drivers they do list are not for any hardware I have on this computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions for fixes or what to try next?

Thanks!

you need to check which protocol is using the AP or router:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11

    and the channel number

Hi IronFly, thanks for your reply!

According to the computers that are connected to the network the protocol is 802.11n and the channel is 13.

What do I do with this information? Is there somewhere on my computer that I need to configure my wireless card to detect this protocol and channel?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by which band is enabled. Below are the properities I can change.

    wirelesscard.JPG

Their current values are as follows:

    802.11b Preamble: Long and Short

    AdHoc11n: Disabled

    Receive Buffers: 256

    Scan Valid Interval: 60

    Transmit Buffers: 512

    Wireless Mode Selection: 5. b/g/n

I tried enabling AdHoc11n, and restarting the computer, and I still cannot find the network.

    I've disabled AdHoc 11n

Wireless mode selection doesn't have AUTO. It has some choices with n, but not n alone. Currently it is set to 5. b/g/n

    set it 4 g/n

if you can't still find the wireless netowrk, check if you can modify the router channel to 1 or 6 or 11 (suggested)
