I have an Aspire M3985 that was working fine for a couple of months after purchase, then an automatic update to Windows 8 was done and since then I have had an intermittent error with regards to connection to my modem. I click on the modem icon in my work tray and choose "troubleshoot problems" and windows goes through it's trouble shooting and comes back with a pop up stating "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration noting that it is fixed. Here's a screen shot: http://prntscr.com/2ikjo6
I am completely bamboozled by Windows 8 and have no idea what I'm doing with it...so I haven't tried to "fiddle" with anything to fix this problem. But months of having to reset my ethernet cable almost every time I boot up is becoming a right royal pain.
Anyone know what might be happening, and how I could fix it?

I surfed through all the responses on this issue and decided to try the simplest step FIRST!
Here's what I did:
1. Shut Down Windows 8 PC
2. Switch off the power at the wall
3. Pull the power cord out of my PC
4. Wait for 5 minutes
5. Plug power cord back into PC
6. Turn on power
7. Boot up PC
I have not had any more issues with my internet connecting on boot up.
It sounded too simple to be true, but it worked and I didn't have to mess around with drivers, ipconfig etc etc
Thank you ForrestLinderman for pointing out that the PC might need a hard reboot to reset something in memory/long term memory ![]()
And thank you ACE finlux for posting the reply with the link to all possible solutions ![]()
