VERITON N2620G Windows 8.1 upgrade failure

I foolishly deployed the W8 to W8.1 upgrade (within windows STORE). Appeared OK until the reboot. 1 POST beep, and just the ACER LOGO screen, nothing else.  ESC displays the BIOS option, but DEL and F12 only displays "entering setup.." or "Please wait". I have tried unplugging the clock battery, setting the 'CLR CMOS 1' jumper.  Still can't get into the BIOS.  Any sugesstions?

<DEL> enter BIOS settings

<F12> BOOT MENU

 

This is the problem:  <DEL> or <F12> do nothing, other than 'Please wait...'

 

I have unplugged the clock battery and set the CLR CMOS jumper, expecting to reset BIOS to factory setting, but no progress.

 

If I could get to the BOOT MENU, then I have other choices.

 

Bottom line, if W8 works fine, do not be tempted by the Microsoft 'STORE W8.1 update.
