Question concerning changing graphics card (XC-605)

Hello, I've had my acer aspire xc-605 for abut 4 or 5 month now, every thing workd fine except gameing. I've done a fair bit of research and it seems that the cause for much of my problems (drop in frame rate, general lag in more modern games) is caused by the graphics card. I was considering buying an Asus Nividia GeForce GTX 650 Graphics Card, I'll leave a link to the Amazon page so ya'll can check it out. My question is will I have to buy a new computer case for this as I know the xc-605 is quite a small desktop in comparrison to others and is there anything I should look out for when modding my pc? I don't perticually want to buy a new case but if needs be I will. Any other help in regards to improving my computer would be nice, I'm newley converted to desktops and this is really my first attempt at modding what I have...

Re: Question concerning changing graphics card (XC-605)

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I'm not really familiar with the XC-605. The card lists the physical dimensions of 19.8 x 5.8 x 11.5 cm, so you can measure. Just don't break anything when you have the case open, and make sure your computer's power supply is enough to handle the video card upgrade.

Re: Question concerning changing graphics card (XC-605)

Thanks, yeah you were right, nothing wrong with the physical dimensions.

I brought a different card to the one first mentioned (though it shows a computer case, I can confirm it is a graphics card haha!) http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-Express-Graphics-Card-Core/dp/B00FUT9ZQ6/ref=pd_rhf_pe_p_img_10 and when I turned on my computer, it would boot up and beep once but there would be no picture on the screen.. I managed to get a refund for it so that's ok. I tried the card on a friend’s computer and it worked fine so the card wasn't the problem. He said it might be the power supply that's the problem so that would mean forking out a hell of a lot more than I originally intended.

If anyone knows of any graphics cards that would work with the model and give it a modest improvement in quality that would be very much appreciated :smileyhappy:

Re: Question concerning changing graphics card (XC-605)

It could definitely be the power supply. The specs say it requires a 400 watt power supply. I show this system only has a 220 watt power supply.
