Acer AM5100-U5201A
I went to the realtek site.
Below is screenshot.
I'm assuming I need to download that first option listed for windows Vista, 7, and 8 executable, but want to make sure.

I downloaded and installed the realtek driver for Vista.
According to programs and features, it's there with date of 5/26/13.
Still have no sound (If we get this fixed I will never update with windows again!!!).
I saw speaker icon near where clock/date is on desktop, with red X so I opened Sound via control panel. Here's a screenshot.
It's back to saying no audio device installed.
Went to device manager>sounds, video, gaming:
As you can see the 2nd device now has a downward arrow. In previous screenshot taken after you had me uninstall realtek from programs/features, it was a hdad device by microsoft (location 3 one I think), and had no down arrow.
I right clicked this 2nd device and this is the information:
Why installing realtek resulted in all this, I have no clue.
What shall I do now?

Sorry about that as your operating systtem is 64 bit you need to download and install the second driver listed there. Before you download and install the 64 bit audio driver uninstall realteck HD audio driver from program and feature.
Post me back the results.

Got a chunk of time, so I uninstalled the other realtek (32bit), and downloaded the x64.
Went to install it and got this message:
Needless to say, the install didn't proceed.
Not sure what this means.

Do I need to uninstall anything before installing Acer's 2008 audio (realtek) driver? I have saved it to downloads.

Ok, I should have a chance to do that either later this evening or tomorrow.
I should uninstall just the realtek stuff right? leave the other hdad and unimodem audio's alone?
Thanks ![]()
