How I get my Acer Aspire X to connect to the speakers in my TV monitor?

I have an HDMI cord, I keep playing around in the control panel, and I bought an audio cable that seems to have no affect on the situation. Help!

What operating system are you running?

Have you tried powering the system completely off, then connecting the HDMI cable and booting up the computer?

If that doesn't resolve your issue, go to Control Panel -> Sound and set HDMI as default.

Thanks. I have Windows 8 OS. The HDMI cable was connected before I powered on the computer at the very beginning. HDMI isn't listed as an option for sound in Control Panel. That's why I'm stuck.

Probably some drivers are missing, can you check if any yellow exclamation mark is present on Device manager under sound?
