Tommy, I'm having the exact same issue. I've tried two different laptops (Win 7 and Win 8) using two different HDMI cables and the Acer does not recognize the HDMI input from either. I use the side button, go into the input menu, and the HDMI IN option is grayed out in both cases and the toggle button doesn't do anything.
Could there be something wrong with the port on the machine? Is there any way to troubleshoot this? I've successfully connected both laptops to other devices using the HDMI port, so I think there's something going on with this All-in-one.
Thanks for your help.

coleburg, were you able to get this to work? It's driving me crazy. I actually talked to Acer technicians twice and they had no idea how to resolve this. I'm wondering it there is some setting in the Acer that needs to be flipped to get it to accept HDMI input, or if something on the system is blocking it.
or maybe my port just doesn't work.

I have had the same problem, i connect up a FreeSat box to the HDMI in and the screen flicks on to HDMI for a few seconds and displays a blank screen and 'no signal' message then goes back to the PC screen.
The OSD option to choose HDMI-in is greyed out.
I have not had a chance to update things using the internet as the house has not been connected yet.
There does not appear to be a solution posted to this yet and i am hoping that someone from Acer has an answer.
Given just plugging in the HDMI cable with nothing attached causes the same switching to a blank screen.

Please Acer, I have the same problem. I purchased this for the kids to play the PS3 through, as well as using it for work. The Option is Greyed Out!!!!
Please Help out here.

Hi,
I had the same issue with the HDMI not switching to the PS3. Buttons on the side to switch input are useless. This is how I do it. PC on, HDMI input PS3 connected. Simply switch on ps3.. Then on your remote controller simply hit the power off/on button (which puts your PC to sleep), the screen will then switch to the HDMI input (PS3). When you want to switch back, hit the power on button, PC wakes up and screen moves back to PC.
Does anyone know how to reduce the sound when playing thru HDMI?
Thanks

No, never got this working, i pretty much gave up, I will never buy acer again, their support is shocking to say the least. I have had nothing buy problems with the 5600u and acer will not reply to resovle the problems.
I have accepted this is a pile of rubbish and hope one day it dies and I can replace with a functioning device.
this thread for example has been on going for a very long time and we are still stuck with greyed out HDMI, have acer resolved NO.
I had an audio problem here http://community.acer.com/t5/Desktops-All-In-Ones/
this is from MARCH!!!!! no response from Acer.
Terrible products matched only by their god awful support.
